Took a week off music this week so I don't burn out. I made up for it by going on a Spaghetti Western binge. Good times, paesanos.

Chrome - The Visitation Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn Joni Mitchell - Shadows And Light (1980 jazzy double live album) The Great Society With Grace Slick - Conspicuous In It's Absence: Live At The Matrix, San Francisco (the complete title on the LP cover.) Curtis Mayfield - Curtis/Live! The Temptations - Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (Norman Whitfield era) Psychedelic Horseshit - Acid Tape Faust - C'est Com Com Complique & Faust Is Last (these are by 2 entirely different bands you know! Both pretty great but I think I like the Peron-Diermier band better.) Magic Lantern - self-titled LP & Platoon Just got my hands on new DUNGEN and BLACK MOUNTAIN, but not listened to them yet . . . think I already have 20 good albums for a "top 10" list this year!!

The Conspicuous Only by its Absence set is only half of the gig. At least on vinyl, the rest was released separately as How It Was. On cd it came out as Live At the Matrix & also as Collector's Edition. Complete set ends with a 6 minute instrumental called Father. But I think the most memorable stuff is in the first half. Arbitration, Sally Go round The Roses & the bands takes on the material later popularised by the airplane. Though 2nd disc has some pretty dark pop stuff on which is great there is another set entirely that must be in some level of circulation that I got from somebody on a Yahoo list. Not sure if San Francisco Nights' GS set is different still. Band to me are as memorable at least for the raga guitar of Darby slick as the keening vocals of Grace. Stevo

Fovea Hex - Neither Speak Nor Remain Silent (Bloom, Huge. Allure) This is a glorious edition of 3 x 3 track ambient folk eps. Fripp, both Enos, Donal Lunny, Percy Jones et al guest on material conceived and largely sung by Clodagh Simonds (she of Mellow Candle). Highly recommended for the more avant-garde inclined fans of mainstream Galadriels like Lisa Gerrard and enough genuine strangeness to engage fans of Comus and say "Black Ships Ate the Sky" (on which Simonds also appears). Bill Nelson - Soluna Oriana Free (with suggested donation to charity) single track download. As good an introduction as any to the music of the later-day Nelson. http://soundcloud.com/billnelson/soluna-oriana Liz Phair - Funstyle Bizarre, fanfare-free, self-released, download-only, $5.99 new album. It is all over the place but loads of fun. In many ways not unlike the nut-job end of symbol-era Prince. Big funky pop tunes sit next to some witty rockbiz satire, mournful indie rock and at least a couple of fragile songs sung in that slightly quavering voice that harks back to early glories. $5.99? You can spend more on the Sunday papers and this is much more entertaining than Paglia on Lady Gaga, the latest misadventures of Wayne's Wang or Ricky Hatton allegedly pictured with a headful of Colombia's finest. Anthony Phillips - The Geese & the Ghost (Remaster) Could be titled "Trespass 2 The Sequel". Lovely summery folk prog. Richter, Oistrakh,Rostropovich, BPO & Von K - Beethoven Triple Talk Talk - Missing Pieces Broken Social Scene - s/t The Soloist - OST Ian Gillan Band - Child In Time (track from Live At Budokan) Steve Wilson - Insurgentes Black Sabbath - Heaven & Hell / Mob Rules / Live Evil

Nice. I'm pretty sure that I've got a copy of this somewhere but it's lost in the 'piles'. I remember it being bloody marvellous. Second thoughts it may just be one of the EPs, but I'm not sure whether it's Bloom, Huge or Allure. Either way thanks for the reminder Ian, impeccable as always. This is currently going for £95 on amazon. Ouch.
