WATERLOO
First Battle
Their debut album appropriately titled “First Battle” — 70 appeared almost at the same time Dutch bands Shocking Blue & Earth & Fire /in similar vein/ had been gaining potential all over Western Europe. Unfortunately this Belgians never got discovered beyond their homeland. Sporting similar instrumentarium as their rivals did — Flute /fairly common/, Hammond Organ, etc they produced a record definately worth checking out even if u aren’t a heavy rock dude.
Highlights include “Meet Again”& the 11 min suite “Diary of an Old Man” plus 6 Bonus tracks released barely 40 yrs after their inception! The intro of “I Can’t Live with Nobody But You”, is obviously modelled on Purple’s — “Speed King”, while the beginning of “Bobo’s Dream” relies on Uriah Heep — “Gypsy”, released that same year!
