The Heads
Undersided
For The Heads the “Time is Now”…. the virtual splitting of the band in 1999 and experiences there after have created this piece of heavy vinyl. “Everybody knows”, the 2nd Album, now just looks like a stop over in space and time.
In 2002 we have “Under Sided”. I’ m pleased to say I’m having difficulties shifting the bastard off my Hi-Fi. Two great slabs of throttle up sounds…“Dissonant” and “False Heavy”…stand out for me. What’s consistent about this album is the way Price and Allen’s guitars are welded at the pick-up on every track. The vocals are more upfront than I have ever heard… none more so then on the truly frightening “Bedminster”. The gents outfitters rhythm section of Morgan and Maskell are as tight as fuck.
But its not all darkness and air locked noise. Subtle ambient flashes, acoustic guitars and sampled commentary breaks the album up and produces a varied and carefully thought out feel. On top of that a seam of Anglo/Krautrock runs from first chord to last.Let this be a warning it’s also shit scary.
Schizoid Rock at its best
