Eddie Henderson

Realization/Inside Out (Anthology Vol 2)

Released 1973 on capricorn/soul brother

This is two albums but the wonderful people at soul brother have paired them together.

Eddie Henderson had a childhood steeped in music. Aged 8 he had the audacity to attempt to tutor houseguest Miles Davis in proper embrochure. Prpbably his most high profile gig was with Herbie Hancocks Loss making Mwandishi band and here they are, bandleader and all on these two Lp’s of well oiled spacy jazz.

It gets quite out there as LFO’s modulate resonant filters as was deemed cosmic in the day and lovely modal figures drift by. Some of the sound effects actually remind me of ‘night of the living dead’ insidious echoplex. And then tectonic chordal plates emerge. Solos are are both rare and well done.

After these sets Eddie continued his paralell career as a doctor and recorded a great many more commercial albums (Sunburst especially is recommended) Luckily enough Soul Brother have put together an anthology of these later years (though it neglects many great tracks such as ‘the Kumquat kid’).
