BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST
Self-Titled
LYRICAL GIANTS
It’s quite rare for a band to start a career with a record that sparks with lyrical brilliance. That’s the case of BJH self-titled debut in 1970. It’s only natural they’d found an appropriate soil to grow their talents in the land of Rainer Maria Rilke — Germany. That’s where the band had enjoyed most success in all of European countries unlike their homeland — UK. A remastered version appeared in 2002 featuring 10 additional tracks with superior sound quality. “The Iron Maiden” is an outstanding piece dedicated to a girl as well as many of the others. “Early Morning” is the perfect tune to start a day, week or trip with. It’s so inspiring, bringing a relaxation to the mind. The orchestration and arrangements are marvelous and compelling thus enabling the ability to distinguish the instruments while listening to it.
Even though nowadays there’s two formations under the abraviation of BJH based upon John Lee & Les Holroyd it expands the creative force and variety behind the acts.
What an achievement to begin with!
