Very sad news. Respect to John, only 40 minutes ago I was thinking about him when I was looking on Abebooks to discover that He and Jeremy Sandford had contributed to the 1978 issues of International Times, Vol 5 No 1.

He wrote to me about Harold Bayley when I discovered some of his typescipts - simply because he illustrated T&H New View over Atlantis DJ with a copy of Archaic England.

He kickstarted it all in '69

My friend Steve Marshall wrote the piece for FT.
They knew John was dying, he was hoping to pass over on May Day.

Shit, that's creepy!

I got my Fortean Times yesterday and read about the 'New View' being 40 years old, and today I got it out and put it to one side thinking "I'll read that again".

I don't think FT is on the shelves yet, subscribers get it early don't they? It's a great issue. I wonder if JM got to see it?

John got to see the final draft and corrected a few minor punctuation errors.
He never saw the mag in print though.

John was a beacon of light, an erudite writer, an inspiration to many, a rebel, an instigator of ways of seeing the landscape and patterns within.

Whilst mourning his passing, we celebrate him for his wisdom and the knowledge which he has passed on to us.

John Michell is dead. Long live John Michell.

Before anyone corrects me - the 'New View' was the 80's update, so it's not 40 years old, I suppose.

Nicely put, Baza!

We were at Megalithomania when he did a talk there a couple of years back. A witty and thoroughly interesting speaker. Seemed like such a nice bloke...

I've not bought Fortean Times in a while now, but might do this month. I like Steve - be interesting to read his article.
