And the winner is…

Nov 24, 2000ce

Wotcha, Dorian Cope here. JoAnne isn’t around today, and I wanted to tell you that we didn’t win the award for our site. The winner was Supergrass. Sorry Supergrass, but NO WAY! If I didn’t feel so proud of this site, and the forward-thinking community that inhabits it, perhaps I wouldn’t feel so ROBBED. I understand that many of you attempted to vote for us on the online music awards website, but it was impossible. Democracy in action! Sounds like Florida! Should we demand a recount? Our Webmaster Supremo, the multi-talented and way-righteous Chris, tells me that the whole event was nothing more than another industry farce. Perhaps I was foolish enough to believe that if they were visionary enough to shortlist us, than surely it was in the bag.

Yes, it pissed me off that we didn’t win it. But you know what? As soon as I read Merrick’s latest news item in U‑Know (dated today), I got some serious perspective. Why should I let a stoopid music biz sham freak me out when I should be spending my time composing an email to the US Delegation at the Climate Summit? So that’s what I did, and I hope you all will too. As a mother and earthling, I have a direct interest in what those fuckers are deciding at the Summit. I know how articulate you Drudes are, so get emailing! And tell ‘em Head Heritage sent you! I’d rather Head Heritage had a righteous reputation than some means-nothing biz accolade any day. Oh yes, a little perspective is a wonderful thing…

So I’m no longer feeling like a sore loser, but back in America the Sore/Loserman campaign appears to be in deep trouble. I personally hope Al refuses to concede for as long as possible, so much do I fear Dubya. Julian and I were talking about it this morning, though, and we wondered if President Dubya might actually be a good thing for the rest of the world. He’s so dumb that other world leaders (those that are in possession of their own IQ) might just be able to take advantage of the fool and have their voices heard for once. Do any of their voices deserve to be heard? Well, you know, at least, like, it would be better than, like, you know, one loud solipsistic gas-guzzling monopolising greedy BELLOW!

On a happier note, I had a great time at Julian’s London show and was very happy to meet so many nice people. As Julian has made it pretty clear that he won’t be performing outside of Britain, lots of you travelled a long distance to come to the UK to see him. As a rock chick who used to travel anywhere necessary to see my favourite groups, I know the love, devotion (and cash) needed to do this. Thank you, it really is greatly appreciated by Julian. And how about that space cadet who took off his trousers? Albany and Avalon certainly got an Education, Education, Education!

I’m off to cook dinner for the girls. Thanks for helping to make this space in cyberspace so special.

Whole lotta love,

Signed DC
